NOTED CRICKETER, MR C. I. THORNTON, DIES.
(United Press Assn.-—By Electric Tel egrraph—Copyr lgh t. > (Received December 11, 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 10. The death is announced of Mr C. I. Thornton, the well-known cricketer.
Charles Inglis Thornton was born on March 20, 1950. He played for Eton, Cambridge University, Kent and Middlesex, and was one of tbeb estknown figures in English cricket. He was a tremendous hitter, and in 1868 in the inter-Varsity match at Lords, he hit a ball clean over the pavilion, Lillywhite describing it as the biggest drive he had ever seen. Lord Harris said of him that he was a magnificent cricketer.
