JUDGE QUASHES BOY’S CONVICTION.

DETAILS OF CASE ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PUBLICATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 11. A decision which may be taken as a precedent was given by Mr Justice Smith in a Children’s Court appeal today. A boy who was charged with stealing a substantial sum of money was convicted on his own alleged admissions, which were unsupported. The Judge upheld the appeal against the boy’s conviction, but ruled that he was sitting as a Children’s Court, in appeal, and therefore the circumstances of the case could not be published. The circumstances under which the boy’s admissions are alleged to have been obtained are of peculiar interest.
