AUSTRALIAN SWIMMER N. RYAN DEFEATED AT WHANGAREI.

Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, December 7. N. Ryan, the Australian middle-dis-tance swimming champion, took part in a carnival last evening. He was defeated by Bridson, the New Zealand champion, in the 440 yards. The time was smin 40sec. Bridson took the lead in the fourth lap and was a length ahead at the finish. Griffiths appeared in several exhibitions and won the 100 yards easily.
