RANGIORA NEWS.
HORSE SALE. The entry at horse sale was the largest seen at Rang!ora for some time. It totalled about 140 horses. With the exception of about a dozen or fifteen draughts, there were no high-class mares or geldings. Buyers for big-priced horses were few and far between, the popular demand ranging from £ls to £2B. Light horses were practically unsaleable. There was a large number of passings. The top price received was for a five-year-old mare, on account of Mrs Coogan, of Waddington. Another good sale was for a six-year-old gelding which brought £49. FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR G. HURLEY. The funeral of the late Mr G. Hurley was largely attended. The deceased was buried in the Methodist Cemetery, in Ashley Street, the , Rev S. Henderson conducting the service. The pallbearers were two brothers of the deceased, Messrs T. Hurley and H. Hurley, and two sons, Messrs A. G. Hurley and H. H. Hurley. Many beautiful wreaths were received, including those from the staff of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association, the Methodist Ladies’ Guild, the Salvation Army, Mr and Mrs H. J. Benjes and family, Mr and Mrs W. Lewis, Mr and Mrs H. Sail and Mr W. Sail, Mrs Ellis and family, Mr and Mrs H. A. Benjes, Mr and Mrs S. Wood, Mr and Mrs S. Ayers. Ella and Dolly Hurley, Mr and Mrs A. A. Fantham and family, Mr and Mrs A. Nunn, Mr and Mrs Patchett. Mr and Mrs T. Dennis and family, Mr and Mrs H. Hurley, Mr and Mrs A. G. Hurley, Mr and Mrs A J. Oed and son, Mr and Mrs Patterson. TEMPERANCE MEETING. The final meeting of the Rangiora branch of the Y.P.C.T.U. was held at the residence of Mrs C. R. Thwaites, Bush Street. The meeting was very well attended, and Mr V. Corbett. presided. Six new members were initiated. The temperance fact was read, by Mr Dodge. Games and competitions followed. ACCIDENT. Yesterday afternoon Mr Albert Taylor. of the firm of Messrs Taylor Bros., painters, suffered an injury to his back and severe bruises and shock through a fall off a ladder from a height of about fifteen feet, when engaged in painting at Messrs Wheeler and Laine’s premises in High Street. lie was con-
veyed home and attended to by Dr Arthur Will. FAT LAMB SALES. The fat lamb sales in North Canterbury will open at the Amberley yards on Monday and at the Rangiora market on Tuesday. There is much speculation over the opening prices, but the farmers are resigned to receiving something less than the figures of last year, when first quality 361 b lambs made lOid per lb, 371 b to 421 b lOd, and over 421 b and second quality 91d.
