WHOOPING COUGH PREVALENT IN CITY.
DOCTORS DO NOT CLASS IT AS SERIOUS DISEASE Although it is always prevalent at this time of year, there is more than the usual amount of whooping cough about in the city at present. Doctors say that the disease is very common, although no serious cases are reported. Some of the smaller schools have had to be closed. A good many cases have been accompanied by a form of influenza, but not of a serious nature. The disease is never a serious one if complications do not set in, and with ordinary care, complications are unlikely. It is when the disease develops -into pneumonia that it becomes graver. The bulk of patients now in the hands of the city’s doctors are children. No recognised treatment exists. As the disease is not considered alarming, the ordinary precautions taken in the nursing of colds are sufficient.
