Ashburton Summer Meeting To-morrow.

GOOD FIELDS PROVIDE ASSURANCE OF SOME EXCELLENT RACING.

The summer meeting of the Ashburton County Racing Club will be held to-morrow and all the indications point to it being very successful. Every event has attracted a good field and from this point of view it will be the best meeting held at Ashburton for a long time. ♦ The following is the programme:— 1 p.m. WINCHMORE HACK HANDICAP, of 110 sovs. Six furlongs.

form when he won at Motukarara, and he must have a chance here. Last Mark has done nothing worth while lately and may require a soft track. Phastar has not had a race for some time, but he has been galloping well lately. Fair Exchange is another with no form this season. Punchestown is a promising sort, -who -was second on the same course in September. Gay Crest has been working well, while Audience, on her best form, must be given a chance. The better of Mr J. M. Samson’s South Canterbury pair, Royal Llmond and Solmuri, may run prominently. Of the Riccarton lot, Master Clarence has the best form, and Punchestown may be in the money. 1.40 p.m. MELROSE TROT HANDICAP* (in harnessJ, of 110 sovs. Class 4min 5 6 sec. Two miles.

Mussolini is a useful pacer, likely to show up prominently. The three-year-old Lydia is one-of the improving sort. Salient is worth keeping in mind, while Cyone, from further jback, is very solid. Lydia may be favourite, with' Mussolini and Salient a likely .pair to trouble her.

Malmsey is very well at present and she looks certain to show up. Night Lad has not raced up to expectations in some of his efforts this season, but at his best he would have a great chance. Quarterdeck is very well. Sea Raid has not come on so much as was expected. Chjckwheat seems to be coming back to form and if he runs one of his good races he will be hard to beat. He usually goes well at Ashburton. Buoyant is in good fettle, but Gold Brick will be troubled by the distance. Malmsey and Chickwheat should be in the money.

Several of the horses in this field have no race form to recommend, them. Huntley can go fast, while Sapient is a smart filly, when caught in the mood. Bellbird showed speed at the Ashburton spring meeting, when beaten narrowly by Meprisant and Desert Song. A repetition of that form would get her some money. is a useful galloper and at his best he will be hard to beat. The two-year-old Sleipner can go very fast and he should keep .all the older horses busy, with Straightcourse and Bellbird most likely to trouble him. MORETOM HACK HANDICAP, of 110 sovs. One mile.

Dutch Money has plenty of speed and she should run well, though the journey is quite far enough. Te Awhina is a good galloper and a likely sort for a race like this. Haze would be dangerous, at his best, but he is unreliable. Thurso won in good style at Motukarara and must have a chance here, likewise Miss Nightraid, who is likely to improve. Ranelagh is a promising three-year-old. but he has not been tried out over a mile. Te Awhina. Thurso and Dutch Money appeal most. 4.5 p.m. SELMA TROT HANDICAP (in harness).

Royal IrocjUois scr More than half the field figure on the limit and they include some improving yoting horses. Sea Mist and Rough Voyage may run well, white the American horse, Royal Iroquois, is another who may show up. 4.45 p.m. WAKANUI HANDICAP, of 120 sovs. Six

Arikiwai may require some racing. Arrowmir is in good fettle at present, but he is not reliable. Buoyant would be dangerous if reserved for this race. Bonrose is a smart galloper, of whom the best has not been seen. Courtlike was a useful two-year-old, but she has not had a race this season. Gold Mint is backward, but Decoy Bird has been galloping well. Solgele is a much improved horse and he may get some more money here. Proud Knight has been galloping well lately, but his recent public form has been disapopint_ing. Solgele reads well, and Bonrose *is another who may show up. lumniiiuiiiuiiiiiiiiiuiiiimiiiiuiiiiiiiiuiiuiiiiiimiimiiiiniiiiiiiiimiiiiiiHiiiimii
