MEALS ON THE MALOLO.
Some idea of the immense preparations necessary on the three months’ cruise of the Malolo may be gained from the fact that 200,000 meals will have been served when the trip ends. The stewards’ staff comprises 288 men, and huge quantities of food were taken on board before the vessel sailed. This supply was augmented at Fremantle. More than 100.0001 b potatoes were loaded at San Francisco, in addition to 35.0001 bof poultry and game 30,0001 bof beef, 25,0001 bof sugar] 75001 b of lamb, 50001 b of pork, 65001 b of veal, 35001 b of sausages, 11,0001 b of smoked and pickled meat, and a big supply of reindeer. Then there were 2501 bof caviare. 9001 bof fresh fish 35001 b of shellfish, 15,000 dozen eggs] and 3000 gallons of cream.
