TRINITY CHURCH: ANNUAL MEETING.

In Trinity Hall last evening an enthusiastic gathering assembled for the annual church meeting and social. Mr Walter Wilkinson (secretary), in his report, said that they were able to sing a Te Deum of gratitude and praise for such a successful year of work. The Sunday evening services in particular were little short of a miracle. When the Rev D. Gardner Miller came three and a half years ago, it seemed hopeless to expect anything in the nature of youth work, but the past year had seen several such organisations launched, all of which had proved successful owing to the zeal and untiring energy of the minister. The preaching had been of a very high order, and reflected a deep spiritual force coming from contact with God. Twenty-six new members had been received and some fifteen more were to be welcomed at the January Communion service. Mr William Bull, in presenting the balance-sheet, said there was every reason for thanksgiving. Last year’s Sunday collections totalled £520 12s sd, as compared with £435 in the previous year. The total amount raised for the general fund was £B2B 16s 4d, which while not sufficient for their needs, showed a steady increase. The debt had been reduced from £2BO 10s to £34 9s. Reports of the various organisations all showed steady progress and were presented by Mrs Lorimer (Ladies’ Guild), Mrs Robinson (children’s church), Mrs Boldero (Brownies), Miss Heath (Cubs), Mrs Boldero (Scouts), Mr T. Best (Y.P.0.), and Mr Anderson (choir). Mrs Sturge gave a report of her work on the Mayor’s Coal and Blanket Fund Committee, a piece of st cial work in which the church is shewing a practical interest. The Rev Harry Johnson, A.T.S., a former minister of Trinity and now Moderator of the Congregational Union, was present and congratulated church and minister on the wonderful success that had been theirs. Solos were contributed by Misses Anderson and Harcourt and Mr James Lorimer.
