CANTERBURY ROWING ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association was held last evening. Present:—Messrs P. D. Kesteven (chairman), A. R. Jacobson, R. E. Nightingale, H. H. Berry, G. H. Hobbs, F. L. Booth, S. Dunn, A. T. Evans, W. L. Whittington, W. Duggan and R. J. Hobbs (secretary). In moving the adoption df the report and balance-sheet (already published), the chairman said that only two regattas were held last year. He understood, however, that Akaroa and Lyttelton were going to revive their regattas this year. Mr Kesteven remarked on the satisfactory position of the association’s finances. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The Union Club advised that Messrs G. H. Hobbs and P. L. Booth had been appointed delegates to the association. The Sumner-Redcliffs Club advised that its delegates were Messrs H. Truscott and R. C. Neville. The secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association wrote stating that the earthquake at Westport bad played havoc with the plant of the Kawatiri Rowing Club, and they had written to the council asking for assistance. He asked that a copy of the letter should be sent to Canterbury clubs with the object of giving New Zealand oarsmen a chance of assisting a sister club in distress. The council had voted £lO. and endorsed the Kawatiri Club's appeal as being one worthy of help. It was decided to vote £2 2s, and to send a copy of the letter to affiliated clubs. The chairman said that something should be done to hasten the work on the weir in the Avon. A member said that the Drainage Board controlled the river, and it would not like anyone to interfere. No action was taken. The secretary reported that senior, junior and maiden fours and double sculls would be held on the opening day, November 2. The representative eight would lead the procession.
