YESTERDAY WAS THE START OF SUMMER TIME.

Most people would not believe it, but this is officially summer time The Government decreed that summer was to start at 2 a.m. yesterday, and for about four hours it was moderately summery, if you overlook an odd chill wind and a bit of frost. When the city woke yesterday, it woke with something on its mind, which, after a certain amount of somnolent cogitation, resolved itself into a realisation that summer time had arrived, the glorious season of dusty hedgerows and long arguments about whether it is one o’clock or two o’clock real time when it is half-past one, summer time.

Christchurch sets its clock on now with an ease born of three years of practise. Till 2 a.m. on March 16, 1930, Sidey s time will be observed, but there will be very little difference noticeable to th-i ordinary citizen, except that he will have half an hour more light in which to play tennis or dig his garden.

An endeavour is being made by the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association to secure E. Tyldesley, of Lancashire, as coach. Tyldesley was in New Zealand with MacLaren’s team in the 1922-23 season.
