MISSIONARY DAY IS OBSERVED BY THE BAPTIST UNION.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 11. “Missionary Day” was observed today at the annual conference of the New Zealand Baptist Union. Reports were received from the mission fields and the conference discussed various aspects of the work. The chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr F. N. Andrews, drew attention to the splendid response made by New Zealand Baptists to appeals from the Indian Mission field. The sum of £7046 had been raised during the year. Miss E. M. Gainsford, secretary oi the Baptist Women's Missionary Union, reported that there was a total of 6S branches in the Union, and there had been an increase in membership of twenty during the year. Miss N. Wilkinson, treasurer, reported that receipts for the year totalled £1653 compared with £1662 in the previous year. There was a balance in hand of £34. The missionary budget for the year ended August 31; 1930, estimated the receipts at £6745 and payments at £6763. Speakers criticised the cutting down of the grant for Indian mission work, and it was decided to circularise the budget to city churches in an endeavour to create greater interest in the work. The budget was adopted. A short address on Chinese Mission work was given by the Rev Lui King, of China, and translated by the Rev W. Lawson.
