DIRT TRACK RACING AT ENGLISH PARK TO-MORROW NIGHT.

Speedway racing originated in Australia several years ago, and immediately took the country by storm, drawing great crowds regularly. The fact that Australia can produce the best exponents of the sport is evidence of the high standard set. England has had its experience of dirt-track racing, and its popularity has been so great that speedways have sprung up, mushroom-like, over night. Christchurch and Wellington were the first towns in New Zealand to be introduced to cinder track acing, and to-morrow night English Park will resound to the oar of the motor-cycles which will herald the opening of the new season. With the experience gained in last season’s competitions, Christchurch Speedways, Ltd., has evolved several schemes which should enhance the enjoyment of patrons. One of these is that there will be no restarts of heats. Should a rider fail to get his machine going, he is out of the race. A. Mann, a young but distinguished Australian rider and scratch man at the Wentworth Speedway, Sydney, will be there to contest matters with the local ,men. The last-named, by assiduous 'practice, have improved out of all knowledge. Especially is this true of J. Carter, W. Thomas, E. Marsh and N. Neill. The appointments at English Park are first-class. Derry’s Band will be in attendance to supply music during the intervals which will take place every half-hour to allow the track to be thoroughly raked and watered. These intervals will be of five minutes' duration.
