FARMERS’ UNION.
CANTERBURY WOMEN’S DIVISION.
The proposal to establish a Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Canterbury was advanced a further step yesterday afternoon, when a provisional executive of the division was set up at a meeting held in. the Chamber of Commerce. Mr K. Murchison occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of ladies. A preliminary meeting was held about a month ago. The chairman suggested that those present should form themselves into a provisional executive. Already a branch hat been formed in Darfield, as a result of a suggestion made by a lady from Otago w’ho was visiting Kirwee. She was keenly interested in the Farmers’ Union, and had expressed astonishment that no branches of the Women’s Division had been formed, in Canterbury. Subsequently. a meeting of women had been held in Darfield, and a branch formed. It was decided to set up a provisional executive, and the following officers were elected: President, Mrs J. D. Hall; vice-presidents, Mesdames M. Bethell and H. A. Knight; honorary secretary, Mrs G. II Gilbert (Dunsandel); committee, Mesdames G. Warren and Gilmore, with power to add.
