TWELFTH ROUND. The twelfth round of the Canterbury Hockey Association’s competitions was played under ideal conditions. SELWYN V. TRINITY. Trinity opened the attack and Herdman missed a. good opening, and play was transferred to the other end, where Patterson saved a hot shot from S. Bell. Getson got away for Selwyn, but Davis bit out. Selwyn pressed hard and Lane centred well for Getson to net. Selwyn 1, Trinity 0. Trinity held play in Selwyn’s end for a spell, but lacked good circle play. A good centre by C. Rogers brought Robb out, and Herdman, following in fast, the score. Selwyn 1, Trinity 1. Trinity went down from the bully and Robb was forced to concede a corner, which was cleared. Half-time score: Trinity 1, Selwyn 1. Selwyn had the better of the opening stages of the second spell and S. Bell sent Getson away, and Patterson stopped a good shot, but Getson scored off the rebound. C. Rogers cut in well and put Trinity in a scoring position. Robb conceded a corner. Off-side by Graham lost a good chance for Trinity. Trinity came back and Robb pushed over. Selwyn returned play to Trinity’s end and R. Lane scored from a scramble. Final score: SELWYN 3 TRINITY 1 TECHNICAL V. VARSITY. The Technical forwards gained ground with a passing rush, but Gracie got offside. Holland put Varsity on the attack. Wear beating Hay for possession. Then Hay transferred to Hustc-n, who netted with a good shot. Varsity 1, Technical 0. Huston broke away in a solo effort, only to be stopped by Hahn. Technical pressed hc-tly, and from a penalty corner Teague put in a hot shot, which was blocked. Technical came again, the Varsity custodian saving by kicking out. Cockroft shot into the Varsity net, but he was outside the circle. Varsity took charge for a time “ Wear and Dick defending solidly for Technical. Gracie put into Varsity’s circle for Teague to equalise the scores. Half-time was called shortly afterwards. Varsity 1, Technical 1. In. a Varsity attack. Hay put in a fast shot, which Pickup saved well. A penalty bully was given against Pickup, and Hay scored for Varsity. Varsity 2, Technical 1. Technical rushed play to tlie other end, where Matthews levelled the scores. Play was very ragged for a time, neither side holding any advantage. From a Varsity rush Hay beat Pickup. Varsity gained a corner, Hahn bringing relief for Technical. Hay then added another goal for Varsity. A minute later Gracie notched one for Technical. Teague secured in th'e circle for Technical, and easily beat M’Combs, equalising the scores. Final scores:— TECHNICAL 4 VARSITY 4 Referees: Messrs L. L. Smith and M. Bugg. ST ALBANS V. WHARENUI. Wharenui broke away from the bully and a roll-in was taken near the back line, from which Fullwood subsequently scored with a shot from close range. Both teams were alternately staging forward rushes, Wharenui having decidedly the better of the play. Breaches on both sides, however, prevented a score. Wharenui kept their opponents continually on the defensive. From a corner, P. Quartermain Secured and the ball trickled in from his* stick. St Albans gained a penalty corner and Quartermain again notched from a rebound witli a flyer. Fox received an injury to a leg. Half-time came with the scores: St Albans 2, Wharenui 1. On resumption, Wharenui took the offensive but poor combination in the forwards kept the score down. Play now became ragged. St Albans broke away and Howe registered their third goal. Frc-m the bully Wharenui gained possession and HoWarth added one with a brilliant shot. Wharenui broke away on the right and took play to the circle, where Davis sent in a beauty. Larsen carried the ball to the circle and Howe’s shot was saved. A second shot of his, however, proved successful. St Albans attacked again and the Wharenui goalie came out to let Larsen score.
