MAIREHAU CLUB HOLD 30-MILE ROAD RACE.
The Mairehau Sports Club held a road race over a thirty mile course at Mairehau this afternoon. The roads were in lirst-class order for racing. J. W. Jordan, A. C. Ritchie, L. W. Hill and S. A. Jordan were on scratch and conceded a start of 9min to the limit riders. Ritchie retired at thirteen miles. At six and a half miles he had picked up two and a half minutes on the leaders. With half the distance gone Prestldge and Turner were in the lead closely followed by Parsons, Gardiner and Bearman. The scratch men were three minutes behind at this stage with six and a half miles to go Ha.zeldlne, Sowden, and Richards were a minute ahead of the Jordan brothers. Hill. Robertson and Bearman. Sowden and Hazeldine finished nine seconds in front of Hill Result:— C. J. Sowden (SJrnin), Time lhr SXmin 16sec 1 G. W. Hazeldine (omin), lhr 32min 46 l-ssec 2 L. W. Black. M P. for Motueka. is a passenger by the West Coast express for Christchurch to-day.
