PAPANUI DOMAIN. At the annual meeting of the Papanui Amateur Sports Club a discussion took place on the methods of the election of the Papanui Domain Board. The club needed the grounds to be put in order so that sports meetings could be held there, and recognised that the board did not have much revenue. The club tv as anxious to help and thought that if it had a member on the board improvements could be made. The chairman (Mr A. E. Purse) asked how the board was elected. He understood that £3OO had been given by the Government to improve the park. Mr J. Sturrock said the board was appointed by the Government from nominations supplied by the board itself. He believed there was a vacancy on the board and that it was quite possible the club would be allowed to nominate a member. Mr T. Grose said that in the past cyclists training on the park had robbed the orchards near and this had left a bad impression. He was pleased to lav that no member of the Papanui club had taken part in these thefts. Finally it was decided to approach the Domain Board and ask that the club be allowed a representative. LADIES’ GUILD. The monthly meeting of the Methodist Ladies Guild was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Haynes presiding. Mrs Griffiths was welcomed as a new member. v The 'secretary was asked to send letters of sympathy to Mrs Gough and Mrs Manhire in connection -with illness In the family.

It-was decided to vote £1 Is to the earthquake fund. Miss Cardale gave a very interesting talk on her work as Secretary of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children. The speaker dealt with the humorous side of her work and emphasised the need for mothers to gain the confidence of their children. Mesdames Ilaynes and Hopper thanked the speaker for the interesting address. PAPANUI ORCHESTRA. The Papanui Orchestra, which added to the pleasure of Papanui for many years is now no more. At a meeting held on Monday last it was moved by the former treasurer, Mr W. T. Church, and seconded by the former conductor, Mr F. Wade, and carried, that all properties of the orchestra be disposed ol and the proceeds given to the Papanui Silver Band. WAIMAIRI SCHOOL MIDDLEWEIGHTS. Waimairi School’s middle-weight team have just entered the second round or the schools' competition and have a great record. So far their wins are: Against Sprevdon, 24 to nil; Normal School, 27 to 3; Fendalton, 47 to nil. Papanui, 36 to nil; Bromley, II to nil, Spreydon (second round) 38 to nil. The Waimairi team is: Forwards, R. Lucas, E. Milne,. W. Ilardic, D. Edmonds, L. Woods, A. Tolmie, A. Beaton, and J. Le Page: backs, L. Brett, L. Barber, Corich, G. Ramond. G. Kirk, RMenzies (captain), R. Dhyberg (vicecaptain): emergencies, G. Rogerson, 1. Rule and P. Common. RELIEF COMMITTEE. A further meeting of the local committee formed to secure funds for the relief of sufferers through the earthquake was held at the Memorial Hall oil Wednesday night. Mr J. Reynolds presided. It was reported that the sum of £sl | 18s was in hand and included £2U col- | lected by Mr T. Grose, £ll by Mr Rey- | nolds and £7 from the Waimairi School. 1 The chairman said that this sum muse I he considered very satisfactory conj sidering that not quite half of the district had been covered. The proprietor of the skating rink (Mr C. Tubert) offered to give the whole proceeds of one afternoon ana evening toward the funds. It was de cided to ask the local churches and other organisations to pass their collections through the Papanui tund. in praising one of the members for the hard work he had done during the year one of the speakers said that the member in question had done all the “ donkey work.” Loud laughter greeted the remark and the speaker had to explain the metaphor away. At the conclusion of the Papanui Sports Club’s annual meeting, Mr \\. Bailey, treasurer of the club, presented three handsome cups to be won outright, the first for most points in athletic events, and the other two for cycling, both-senior and junior. The points for cycling will not start till the Pearl Cup is decided. GIRLS’ CLUB. The weekly meeting of the Methodist Girls’ Club was held on Tuesday evening, July 2. The guests were members of the Ilarewood Girls’* Club. The first part of the evening was taken up with physical exercises and games, and then the girls did passe partout work and raffia work. Supper was served at the conclusion and the singing Of the camp chorus brought a pleasant evening to a close. Next week an interesting address on bookmaking and bookbinding will be given. All friends are welcome. BASKETBALL. Last Saturday’s results were as follows :—Hinemoa A S lost to Radley A 17, Hinemoa B 3 lost to Kia Ora 5. LOYAL PAPANUI LODGE. M.U. The usual meeting of the lodge*was held on Thursday, when N.G. Brother A. Powell presided over a large attendance of members and visitors from Loyal Volunteer and Riccarton Lodges. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Brother F. E. Rolleston. Funeral and sick benefit to | the amount of £54 was passed. One candidate for membership was initiated. P.G. Brothers Millington and Fabian were conductors and P.G. Brother W J. Eady fulfilled the duties of lecture master. P.G. Brother \V. J. Eady, as dispensary delegate, gave a report on a recent meeting of the board, jAt the conclusion of the business, the visitors were entertained. Attention is drawn to the lodge annual carnival, to 1 be held in the Memorial Hall at the j latter end of August. Full particulars will be advertised later. The Belfast branch of this lodge has now been opened, and is meeting fortnightly. ANgjENT ORDER OF FORESTERS. The half-yearly meeting of the Court Papanui Foresters was held in the Court Room, on Monday evening, the Chief Ranger, Brother Geo. Sey, pre siding. The Woodwards reported ?i>: members on the sick funds and one brother <able to resume work. The sick visitor, Brother Foote, reported visiting several of the sick brothers. A motion of sympathy to the relatives of the late Brother G. Phaup, secretary of Court Ashburton, was passed in silence. Several members spoke eulogising the services of the late brother The balance-sheet for the half year was presented and showed the court to be in a very sound position. Complimentary tickets were received from Court Queen of Canterbury for its annual dance. The election of officers for ; the next half year resulted as follows:
