TOO MUCH WHISTLE.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —Could you tell me if it is legal for a factory or workshop to use a siren as a whistle? At the Addington Workshops a shrill siren is sounded every morning. There are two blasts given, at 7.55, and one long one at eight o’clock. Now I believe a person can be prosecuted for fitting anything resembling a siren on a vehicle, and yet this affair goes on each morning. A plain whistle, such as the shops used to have cannot be good enough for them now. Besides this, the siren is so deceiving, and I think the Christchurch Fire Board might take the matter up.—l am, etc., PLAIN WHISTLE.
