The state of the parties at four o’clock was:— , South African Party 42 Nationalists 18 Creswell Group 5 Labour Council Group .... 3 Allowing for doubtful constituencies the Pact is. assured of a majority of about 20. Johannesburg North was won by the South African Party by one vote. Mr Jansen, the Speaker, was returned. General Jan Smuts, General J. B. M. Hertzog, Mr N. C. Havenga, Minister of Finance and Mr J. C. G. Kernp, Minister of Agriculture, were also elected. —Australian Press Association.
