WEST COAST MINERS SEND DEPUTATIONS TO THE MINISTER.
(Special to the “Star.”) GREYMCUTIT, January 29. The Hon W. A. Yeitch, Minister of Mines, arrived at 5 p.m., after visiting the Blackball and Dobson mining areas, and there receiving a deputation relative to providing pensions for miners aged over sixty years, an increase of compensation in fatal accidents, the es- ; tablishment of colliery rescue stations and casualty rooms, State grants for - miners’ accident funds, and housing im > provement at mining places. Sympa thetic replies were given by the Min-j ister.. After the civic reception here, deputa tions asked that the Mines Department I endeavour to provide better working , time at the State mines. They also ask- ' ed for an extension of the railway from i Rapahoe to Ten Mile for -mining ore, and the formation of a main highway' through Cobden, round Point Elizabeth to Rapahoe. An increased gold prospecting subsidy was requested and for timber workers increased wages and unemployment insurance. The Minister promised consideration in every case.
