APPRECIATION OF DR G. J. BLACKMORE.
HOSPITAL BOARD PRAISES HIS WORK.
Appreciation of the services of Dr G. J. Blackmore as Superintendent of the Cashmere Sanatorium, was expressed by the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day. “It is with great regret,” said Mr Otley, “that we receive this last report from Dr Blackmore as superintendent of the sanatorium.” Mr Otley that Dr Blackmore had come to New Zealand in 1910 and on March 2 of that year he met the Hospital Board. When Dr Blackmore took charge there were only 35 beds at the Sanatorium. Ail knew the amount of work that had been done since then for T.B. patients. He would like to say on behalf of the board that they all appreciated very much what Dr Blackmore had done. Dr Blackmore was going to England, and he hoped they would see him again. Since Dr Blackmore had taken charge of the Sanatorium everything had run splendidly. Not only was Dr Blackmore good on the medical side, but he was splendid as a disciplinarian. There was no better in any institution, he did not care where they went, either in New Zealand or anywhere else. The board owed Dr Blackmore a very deep debt of gratitude. Men, women and children had to thank Dr Blackmore for their restoration to health. The feeling between Dr Blackmore and the board had always been of the best. His departure was like the departure of a member of one’s family. He sincerely hoped that in Dr Macintyre the board was going to have an excellent officer. He had no doubt that the sanatorium would still go on as well as in the past. Dr Blackmore was a type of man that they could not pick up every day- He wished Dr Blackmore and Mrs Blackmore and their family the best of good fortune. He moved that the secretary write to Dr Blackmore, expressing very great appreciation of his services all the time he had been with the board. Mr F. Horrell endorsed the remarks of the chairman. North Canterbury had been favoured in having such an excellent officer. He was sure that in Dr Macintyre the board had obtained a worthy successor. Mr A. T. Smith also supported the chairman’s remarks. The resolution was adopted.
