RUSH TO SECURE ACCOMMODATION ON FERRY STEAMERS.
PLENTY OF ROOM ON DAYLIGHT TRIPS.
The ferry steamer traffic between the two Islands during the holidays gives promise of being quite as heavy as in previous years. During the last week there has been a very heavy demand for accommodation and many people have been unable to get berths on the day on which they intended to travel. On December 20 and 22, the Wahine will sail from Lyttelton with abotit S2O passengers on board, while on December 21 the Maori will take a full complement of 760. The only accommodation left on these days is a few shakedowns for men. Daylight trips will be run on December 23 and 24, and the Union Company advises that there is plenty of accommodation available. The boats reach Lyttelton between 5 and 6 a.m. and sail again at about 8 o’clock, reaching Wellington soon after 5 p.m. There is an easing off in the bookings after December 22, but the rush begins again in the New Year. There is also a fairly heavy demand from here for passages to Australia. The Maunganui will be a full ship when she sails for Sydney on December 20. Ferry bookings for the South at Wellington are heavy, and little accommodation remains on the three days preceding Christmas.
