PRAYERS OFFERED FOR KING BY SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.
The ideal camping weather which Christchurch is now experiencing has contributed much to the comfort of the hundreds of Adventists now encamped at the Addington Show Grounds. Yesterday the conference proceedings were continued, and reports from the Home Mission secretary, Mi R. 11. Powrie, and from the Field Missionary secretary, Mr A. Jackson, were presented. During the proceedings of the business session in the morning the following resolution was adopted:— “Whereas we are exhorted in the Scriptures to pray for kings and for all who are in authority, and whereas his Majesty King George has been stricken with a serious malady which is causing grave anxiety to his subjects in all parts of the Empire, we, as loyal subjects, desire to express our deep sympathy with the King and Queen and the members of the Royal Family in this their affliction, and we earnestly pray that God in His mercy will speedily heal His servant whom He has ordained to occupy the Throne of our Empire.” In presenting this resolution to the conference. Pastor A. W. Anderson spoke feelingly of the serious sickness from which the King is suffering, and suggested that the resolution should be carried by the congregation rising and singing the National Anthem. Special prayer was also offered on behalf of the King. At the afternoon session special instruction was given on Sabbath school work, this being followed by a Bible study conducted by Pastor A. H. Piper. At the public service in the evening Pastor James Pascoe, of Invercargill, preached, taking for his subject, “A Warless World for a Thousand Years.”
