COUNCIL WILL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR HEALTH WEEK IN 1929.
In connection with Health Week, a letter was received by 7 the City 7 Council last night from the General Health Week Committee stating that, at its last meeting, a resolution was carried j recommending the council to call a { public meeting in July 7, 1929, with a view to setting up a committee to control a Health Week to be held some time (not later than October) in 1929; alsq stating that Health Week this y 7 ear could not be made the success that was desired owing to its having been arranged at such short notice, and recommending the council to ask the adjacent local bodies to take part in the Health Week campaign next year. The letter was received, and it was decided that the recommendation contained in it should be adopted. Another letter from the General Health Week Committee conveyed to the council its appreciation of the fact that the council was endeavouring to abate the trouble caused through undue noises during the night. The following telegram was received from the lion A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health: “I am pleased to learn that the Christchurch City Council has commenced a Health Week campaign to-day, and I desire to congratulate the council on this evidence of its earnest efforts to carry 7 the knowledge of health to the people of Christchurch. There is no doubt a wide scope for the dissemination of advice which will tend to maintain and increase the health both of the individual and of the community. I can assure y r ou that the Health Week Committee has my warmest approval and very best wishes for a successful campaign. May I express the hope that the results obtained will be of lasting benefit to your city 7, and ‘ that the efforts of the committee will impress upon y r our citizens the need for constant vigilance where the public health is concerned and the inestimable value of co-operation by all sections of the community for the public good.” Councillor C. L. Carr said he thought it was very encouraging to receive such a message from the new Minister of Health. The telegram was received.
