SOLDIERS’ GRAVES TO BE SHIFTED AT BROMLEY.
A letter was recently received by the Reserves Committee of the City Council from the Department of Internal Affairs intimating that the next-of-kin of the majority of men who had been interred in other portions of the Bromley Cemetery had been communicated with and that consent to the removal of the remains into the new area had been obtained in twenty-four cases. At last night’s meeting of the Council the committee reported that it desired to know if the Council would undertake the removals, and what charge would be made. The usual charge made by the Council for disinterring and reinterring a coffin in another part of the cemetery was £2, but this did not include the cost of transference, nor the supply of the necessary materials. In view of the circumstances, however, the committee recommended that the Council undertake to carry out all the work fentailed in the transference for the sum of £2 each. The recommendation was approved.
