The City Engineer has submitted for the consideration of the Works Committee of the City Council a sample of a street name plate which, in addition to displaying the name of the street, indicates the street numbers of the houses, in the portion of the street. In the course of its report to the council last night the committee stated it was of opinion that name plates of this type will prove a great benefit to the public and the city engineer had therefore been authorised to erect them as occasion arose. A suggestion had also been made that the backs of these name plates should have painted on them the first and last letters of the name of the street so that although the whole name could not be read because of the post to which the plate is affixed there would still be sufficient letters shown to indicate the street. This suggestion had also been given effect to. The i report was adopted.
