DISPUTE OVER SALE OF FISH IS SETTLED.
(Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND. December 17. No further trouble in the marketing of fish is expected at Sanford’s depot, as Mr Sanford states that he is prepared to meet the wishes of retailers. This will obviate the necessity for the suggested emergency measures on the part of the retailers and it is presumed that the city's fish trade will continue as before. Objection was raised by to the action of the firm in making up l»askets of fish for sale at 25s each, instead of selling by the pound as had l*een the custom. An emergency meeting was held on Friday, a committee being set up to inquire into the possibility of obtaining supplies elsewhere. In stating his intention to meet the wishes of retailers, Mr Sanford said last evening that he had not been approached by them and he had not yet made his decision known to them. He had instructed his seller to dispose of fish at the sale this morning, as the retailers desired. The fish would be in baskets but it could easily be sold by the pound. His firm had no wish to antagonise the retailers, who were at liberty to adopt either system of purchase.
