EXPENDITURE OF £IOOO NECESSARY.

PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS

Until the City Council draws up its estimates for next year, it is unlikely that any further action will be taken with regard to the proposal to establish municipal golf links on an area of about seventy at the Bottle Lake reserve.

Recently two golf experts made an inspection of the area in company with Councillor P. W. Sharpe, and they reported that a first-class golf course could be provided at an expendituoe of about £IOOO. The next step will be to make provision for this expenditure in the council’s estimates. The matter will probably not be discussed until next year. It is considered that, once municipal golf links are established, they will be self-supporting, this having been the experience in other parts of the world where municipal links are provided.
