AMATEUR GARDENERS CAN TRY FOR PRIZE.

Amongst the activities of the United Burgesses’ Association is an amateur garden competition, open to residents in the city and suburbs. Entries will be received up to December 29, and judging will be completed by February 9. Winners of first and second prizes will be eligible for the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s champion competition. The conditions provide that the garden area must comprise the whole allotment on which the competitor resides. The area must not exceed half an acre. Marks will be allotted:—General lay-out 25, cultivation and maintenance 20, flowers and shrubs 25, vegetables 20, fruit 20.
