BURGESSES DISCUSS CIVIC QUESTIONS.
The council of the United Association last evening had a fairly long order paper. Amongst questions discussed was the damage done to footpaths by builders, who opened but did not repair them. Members stated that builders paid a pound each time they broke up the footpath, but they seldom repaired the damage, leaving the City Council to do it. and the ratepayers had to bear the extra expense. It was decided to draw the City Council’s attention to the danger from this practice. It was decided to ask the City Council to erect conveniences in Linwood Park. The right of the Government to appoint one of its two members on the Waimakariri River Trust as chairman was discussed, and the regularity of the proceeding was questioned. Further consideration of this question is held over until more information is obtained.
