Mrs English, Timaru, is the guest-,of Mrs George Harper, Christchurch. Miss C. Dickhoff, Southbrook, has left for the North Island, where she will spend a holiday. Dr and Mrs F. W. Lumsden (Hanmer Springs) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Miss M’Clatchie and Miss Hill are among the recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. W. Cooper, Palmerston North, are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs A. W. Rutherford and Miss Rutherford have returned to Mendip Hills after a brief stay in Christchurch. Miss Violet Twentyman, Papanui, has returned from a holiday trip to the Fiji Islands. Miss Nancy Aslin (Dunedin), who has been spending a few weeks in Christchurch, is returning south on Monday. Mrs Westall has returned to Christchurch from a trip to Europe, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs Frank Wilding, Riccarton. Miss Cicely O’Rorke is leaving early next week for Auckland to attend the Girl Guide conference, opening on Wednesday. Mrs J. F. Studholme (Fendalton) is leaving to-night, en route for Auckland, to attend a conference of officers of the Girl Guides. Mrs Charles Beadel and Miss Maberley Beadel left to-day for a short holiday visit to Timaru, where they will be the guests of Mrs George Kerr. Dr and Mrs Gabites arrived in Christa church from the north this morning and are staying at the United Service Hotel.

Mrs D. Macdonald, Geraldine, who was spending a few days in Christchurch, has left for a holiday at Hanmer Springs. Recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal include: —Mr Peter Dickson (Wanganui), Mr J. On Tuesday night, at 7.30, Miss Havelaar, the newly-appointed Assistant Organiser for St Saviour’s Orphanages, will hold her first parish meeting in St Michael’s Schoolroom, Durham Street, in connection with the work of the orphanages. Mr C. E. Jones will occupy the chair. A feature of the Cottage Flower Show to be organised by the R:chmond Free Kindergarten on December 15, will be the Hid stall, where a surprising variety of goods may be obtained for that small sum. There will alio be competitions, side-shows, afternoon tea and a novelty in the shape of character reading from handwriting. A fair will be held at the ground of the Phillipstown Kindergarten on Saturday, November 24. The fair will be opened by the Mayor (the Rev J- K. Archer) and Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. There will be attractions for all cooking and fancy dress competitions, baby show and 6talls. Admission will be free.

Grave, Miss Janet Mackay (Oamaru). The home of Mr and Mrs F. J. Musgrove, of Jeff’s Comer, Templeton, was a scene of much gaiety last Wednesday, when a surprise party organised by Mrs C. Hansen, of Christchurch, paid a visit. The party was arranged as a kitchen evening in view of the approaching marriage of Miss Eva Musgrove, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Much merriment was caused by the reading of the original I verses enclosed in the different parcels, which were opened just before supper was served. Mr Hansen asked the prospective bride and bridegroom (Mr Allan Mackie) to accept the many useful gifts as a tetfeen of the goodwill and esteem of the assembled guests, and wished them much happiness and prosperity in their married life. ST MARGARET’S COLLEGE. ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING. Ideal weather favoured the pupils of St Margaret’s College for their annual sports, which were held at the college hostel yesterday afternoon. The gathering, owing to bad weather, had been postponed on three previous occasions. Seats were arranged on the lawns, and many parents and friqnds were present to watch the events. During the afternoon tea was served in the garden. The prizes were presented by Mrs Douglas Anderson, who was introduced by Archdeacon Taylor. The winners were:— Three-legged Race, under eleven —P. Misses Adrienne Acland and Norah Hoare (Old Girls) lost to Misses M. Shirtcliff and B. Tipping (present girls), 9-4. Misses Alys Jones and Amy Dixon (Old Girls) beat Misses P. Smith and N. Munns (present girls), 9-1.
