SCHOOLS BOARD WILL SEEK LEGAL ADVICE.
| NO ACCIDENT POLICY TO COVER PUPILS. f (special to the “Star”) AUCKLAND, September 27. Members of the Grammar Schocl Board were concerned to hear at yesterday’s meeting that they might be held personally responsible for liabilities resulting from accidents to pupils. In order to make provision for such cases, the board at the last meeting decided to approach the Education Department about taking out an insurance policy. A reply was received that the Department was not taking out a policy, but if the lioard could effect a policy covering both pupils and teachers at moderate cost it should probably consider doing so. The Grammar Board members considered that this was too vague to warrant action being taken. “But if a pupil gets hurt and wins a claim for damages who is going to pay?” asked Mr H. S. W. King, to which the chairman (Professor Thomas) replied that the board had no fund to meet such a contingency. Mr Ward Baker remarked that the liability might fall on members personally, hence legal opinion is to be obtained.
