TOM HEENEY MAY COME TO CITY.

IS INVITED TO GIVE BOXING EXHIBITION. Tom Heeney has been asked by Mr H. T Armstrong, M.P., whether he will come to Christchurch tomorrow or Saturday to give an exhibition bout at the Labour Party’s carnival, which will conclude at the end of this week. Heeney had replied that he will give his decision on the matter to-day. Mr Armstrong. asked ' Heeney whether, in the event of his not agreeing to an exhibition bout, he would consent to referee one of the bouts which are staged at the'carnival each evening. It is stated that if Heeney agrees to an exhibition bout, his opponent will be either C. Pocock, Canterbury champion middle-weight:, or H. Casey, Australasian welter-weight champion. The carnival, which is being held in Messrs Smith and Smith's buildings, Tuam Street, between Durham and Colombo Streets, includes in its attractions a cabaret, side-shows, and two boxing bouts each night. The funds will be devoted to the Labour Party’s election campaign expenses. The main bout last night was an exhibition one between C. Pocock and T. Jaggers, and was a willing and clever match. On the previous evening W. Carey defeated A- Baird by a narrow margin of points. To-night A. Thompson and A. Birchfield will stage a bout. *
