EX-REFORM M.P. ATTACKS GOVT.
EXCESSIVE BORROWING, LACK OF ECONOMY, AND HIGH TAXATION. Per Pres* Association. HAWERA, September 25. Mr C. A. Wilkinson, of Elthara, who is contesting the Egtnont seat as an Independent against the Hon O. Hawken, opened his campaign last evening with an address at Auroa. Mr Wilkinson represented Egtnont from 1912 to 1919 as -a Reformer. He attacked the Government on the grounds of high, inequitable taxation, lack of economy, excessive borrowing, interference in business which was suffering from control of Government by officials. On the licensing question he supported the bare majority, with the two-issue ballot paper and an extension of the 'time between the polls to six years. He reserved the right to associate himself with any party which might arise, which in his opinion appeared likely to best serve the common interest.
