MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr 11. P. Lawry, S.M.). A NOISY PARTY. Christina Lawson, John Qpx, Selina Parker and James Thomas Ayers were charged with having behaved in a disorderly manner in Carlyle Street last evening. Sub-Inspector J. Fitzpatrick said that members of the party were shouting, singing and yelling, and disturbed the residents. The first-named offender was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for disorderly behaviour. She was convicted and discharge for casting offensive matter in Moorhouse Avenue. Cox was fined for disorderly behaviour, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Selina Parker was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, and Ayers, who, it was stated, has a better record than the others, was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. “ Can I have time to pay ? ” Cox asked before he was sentenced. The Magistrate replied: “You are liable to go to gaol for this.” FOLLOWED A CONSTABLE. John Otto Rankin said that he was very sorry that he had behaved in a disorderly manner in Colombo Street last evening. He explained that when the police put him into a taxi he resisted. He claimed that he was quite harmless. Sub-Inspector Fitzpatrick said that Rankin insisted on following Constable Shanley along the street, and resisted him and another constable. Rankin was convicted and discharged on the charge of disorderly behaviour, was fined £3, in default seven days’ imprisonment, for using obscene language, and was fined £1 for resisting the police. A statutory first offender was fined £l, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.
