MAYOR COMMENDS BOULEVARD SCHEME.

SUGGESTS THAT PUBLIC SHOULD INSPECT WORK.

A proposal is under consideration for holding a big public function in connection with the opening of the first portion of the riverside boulevard during Carnival Week in November. The Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, stated to-day that it was hoped that part of the scheme would be absolutely completed early in November and the citizens and visitors would be able to see what the boulevard was like. “In the meantime,” he added, “ 1 think it would be a very fine thing if all citizens who could do so would inspect the work now in progress on the boulevard scheme, .because I feel sure they would be most favourably impressed. Further contributions towards the cost of the work are needed and it is to be hoped that the public will continue to support the scheme.”
