FINANCIAL AID FOR KAIAPOI HOSPITAL.

In order to keep the private maternity home and hospital at Kaiapoi functioning, the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day decided to contribute £l5O towards its funds. The Hospital Committee reported that a special sub committee, set up to visit JCaiapoi with reference to the assistance of the board in maintaining the local private maternity home and hospital, visited that district on July 24. It was found that the institution had been closed owing to lack of funds and the requirements of the Department of Health. On a report bv the sub-committee, the committee had recommended the Finance Committee that the sum of £l5O be granted—for the current year—to enable this small institution to be re-opened. Tit bringing the matter IWore the board to-day, Mr 11. 11. Holland said that the committee was quite unanimous in it-s decision that Kaiapoi was a deserving care: The chairman (Me U. J. OtJev) said that this institution was needed to keep a doctor in the district.. The hospital was needed in case of emergency. The committee’s recommendation was adopted.
