MAN SHOCKINGLY MUTILATED BY A GOODS TRAIN.
FATALITY OCCURS ON LINE NEAR TIMARU.
A shocking accident occurred on the main south railway line about half a mile south of the Timaru station last night. A man was killed by the slow train from Oamaru, due at Timaru at 7.20 o’clock. The body, which has not been identified, was badly mutilated, the head being torn oti and the arms severed.
It is not known where the accident actually happened, but the attention of the Engine driver, G. A. Hutt, was attracted by gravel flying past the side of the cabin as the train was travelling between Mill Street and Heaton Street. On the train's arrival at Timaru it was found that there had been a fatality. Constable J. Marsh went out and searched the line, finding the remains of a man scattered along the line for about four chains between the streets stated.
The body is that of a middle-aged man about six feet in height. The right forearm bore tattoo marks in the form of a butterfly, a harp, a cross and a sword, also a fern and a bunch of berries were tattooed on the upper left arm. and there was a scar on the upper right arm. The body was clothed in a dark tweed suit. In one pocket there was a blue calico cap of the type worn by seamen and watersiders. The body was removed to the morgue in Timaru.

The remains of the man killed near the Timaru railway station last night have been identified as those of Thomas Bradley David. lie was forty-seven years of age. single, and lived at 4, Queen's Street. Tiinaru. About twelve months ago the man’s father, Samson David, was killed near the same spot by being run over by a train from the south. The inquest will be held to-morrow morning.
