“LEAVE THINGS ALONE” IS CHAIRMAN’S TIP.

The request of the Director-General of Health that the North Canterbury Hospital Board .should defer its request for additions to the Cashmere Sanatorium till after the T.B. inquiry had reported was recalled at to-day’s meeting of the board by Mr A. T. Smith.

“ Now that the inquiry has made its report,” he said, “ I move that we write and ask for the additions. If we do not get on with that building at the present time, we will have to go through next winter as we are. The sooner it is started the better. We had a letter asking us to write when the report came in, and I move that we write.”

The chairman: Wait on. I have a private letter. Leave things alone. Mr Smith: There are too many of these private letters. If you had told me I would not have gone and made a fool of myself. What is the letter? The chairman: I do not know that I can make it public. As far as I know we are going to get it. Do you want to move ? Mr Smith: Oh, no. The chairman: You can if you like. Mr Smith: Good-bye!
