Peter Bingen Secures National Cup at Trots.

GOOD FIELDS TAKE PART IN EVENTS ON CONCLUDING DAY.

LEADING practically all the way, Peter Bingen, second favourite, won the National Gup Handicap, the big race at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s August meeting at Addington to-day. Jewel Pointer got up in time to secure second place, with Talaro third. To-day’s programme concluded the meeting. The track was in good order, and there wata large attendance.

GOOD FIELDS START IN ALL EVENTS. The August meeting of the New Zea land Metropolitan Trotting Club was concluded at Addington to-day. The course was in good order, and there was a large attendance, the weather being fine. Following are the results: — MIDWINTER HANDICAP (in harness), of 300 sovs. Unhoppled trotters; class 2.34. Merry Bingen was soon in front, and going along the back, he had Burnie. Katute and Nelson Boy as nearest attendants. With half the journey gone. Merry Bingen was three lengths in front of Katute and Nelson M’Kinney with Burnie next, closely followed by Happy Rosa and Kerrwood Bell. Nelson M’Kinney took the lead half a mile from home, followed by Nelson Boy, Merry Bingen, Happy Rosa and Kerrwood Bell in a bunch, while Tamerlane was close up. Nelson Boy and Happy Rosa took the lead when the straight was reached, and in a fine finish Happy Rosa lasted long enough to beat Kerrwood Bell by a head. General Bingen was first out, but passing the stand he had Firpo and Pan Yan in close attendance, with Nantwich, Brentloc and Jean M’Elwyn not far away. Going along the back Brentloc ran into third place, but three furlongs from home, where General Bingen was two lengths in front, Nantwich and Firpo were next with Jean M’Elwyn and Brentloc handy. Nantwich and Jean M’Elwyn moved up to General Bingen at the entrance to the straight, Jean M’Elwyn drawing away to beat General Bingen easily by two lengths. Native Chief, with a great finishing run, was halt a length away third, with Nantwich two lengtha further baok. Times—2m in 11 2-ssec, 2min I3«ec,2min 7 l-6sec.

Acron led Peter Bingen in the early stages, with Loganwood and Talaro next, while at the end of two furlongs Native Chief ran into fourth place. Passing the stand, Peter Bingen was showing the way to Acron, Native Chief and Loganwood, with Talaro and Cardinal Logan next. Going along the back, Peter Bingen was a length in front of Native Chief and Acron, with Loganwood. Talaro. Peterwah and Cardinal Logan heading the others. Starting on the last lap, Peter Bingen was a length in front of Acron, with Loganwood and Peterwah following at intervals, just clear of a bunch in which Native Chief, Cardinal Logan, Queen’s Own and Jewel Pointer were prominent. Peter Bingen had Acron and Peterwah as his nearest attendants going along the back. A little further on Acron dropped back, beaten. Peter Bingen was leading at the entrance to the straight from Peterwah. Jewel Pointer and Talaro. A furlong from the post Peterwah broke and Peter Bing n went on to win by three lengths from Jewel Pointer, who beat Talaro by a neck. The order was unchanged at the end of half a mile, but going along the back Western K.ng put in a brilliant run on the outside, landing In fourth plape behird Avenger, Loch Moigh and William the Great at the mile post, where Huon Denver was also prominent. Starting on the last lap, Avenger, Loch Moigh and Western King were together, followed by William the Great and Jolly Chimes. Leaving the straight. Western King ' drew clear of Loch Moigh, these two going on with a gap of three lengths from Jolly Chimes. Western King and Loch Moigh were together at the home turn, where Glenelg took third place. Loch Moigh headed Western King in the straight, and won by a length. Huon Denver, who finished with a strong run, was three lengths away, with Glfcnelg two lengths further back, followed by Parkwood and Avenger. Times—4min 29 l-ssec, 4min 27 l-ssec, 4min 28 3-ssec.
