LODGE MEETING.

The fortnightly meeting of the Elim division of the Sons of Temperance was held on Saturday evening, Brother Graves presiding. A vote of sympathy was passed to the widow of the late Brother Lucas, whose death occurred at the Christchurch Hospital during the week. Sick pay accounts were pa ced for payment, and a candidate for membership was proposed. A discussion followed concerning certain parts of the initiation ceremony. Some members contended that the wording was impressive and poetic, others that it was unnecessarily long and thrt it sacrificed simple vigour to verbosity. A deadlock was reached when the ques•_ion .arose as to what was really poetic language, and the meeting closed with a remark by Brother Harrison that at least interest had been aro&sed in the lodge ritual.
