GENEROUS GIFTS SENT TO DEPOTS.
CASUAL JOBS WANTED FOR MEN OUT OF WORK,
Cash donations totalling nearly £2O were received at the Central Relief Depot this morning, in response to the appeal for funds with which to carry on the work of the depots in relieving distress caused as a result of unemployment. Several gifts of clothing and foodstuffs were also received. The workers at the depot would be very glad to hear from anyone able to provide casual jobs for men out of work. The great majority of the men are really anxious to get any work that is offering, and one of the most pitiful aspects of the work of the depots is to have men continually asking if there are any jobs which they can be sent to.
Men’s clothing and boots are still badly needed, as there are eager applicants for these goods as soon as they come in.
Mr P. G. Grant resumed his duties as honorary secretary of the depot this morning after an absence of four weeks from Christchurch. Mr D. C. Bums has been acting as honorary secretary during the absence of Mr Grant.
