CELEBRATED SINGER HONOURED.

In a private reception room at Ballantyne’s on Saturday morning, Mrs Burnes-Loughnan was hostess at a party given in honour of Mr Alfred O’Shea, the eminent Irish-Australian tenor, who is at present visiting Christchurch. Fragrant spring flowers decorated the tea tables, and the gathering was pleasantly informal, Mrs Burnes-Lough-nan arranging that all the guests should have an opportunity of chatting with the distinguished visitor. Mrs Burnes-Loughnan briefly welcomed Mr O’Shea, and the members of his party, and Dr Kennedy, after thanking Mrs Loughnan fQr her hospitality, which she so often extended to visiting artists, expressed the hope that the guests of honour would enjoy their stay in Christchurch, and take away with them happy memories of their tour through the Dominion. Mr O’Shea, on behalf of himself and his two associates, thanked Mrs BurnesLoughnan and Dr Kennedy for their kindness, and expressed pleasure at being once more in the lands of the Southern Cross, after his long sojourn in Europe. Those present were:—The Mayoress (Mrs J. K. Archer), Mrs Burnes-Lough-nan, Dr Kennedy, Lady Clifford, Mrs Deans, Mrs J. E. Russell, Madame GowerBurns, Mrs James flight, Mrs and Miss Gosset, Dr T. L.
