MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) Two first offenders for drunkenness were convicted and each fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. Harry Ernest Herbert, for drunkenness, was convicted and fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. On a charge of breaking his prohibition order, accused was convicted and fined £2, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. HEART TROUBLE. Charged with drunkenness 'and a breach of his prohibition order. Samuel John Martin made the plea of ill-health. “I suffer from severe heart trouble and have to sit up in bed because I can’t sleep: the doctor has given me up.” said Martin. Accused went on to say that he had an order to go to a home. Accused's pleadings were cut short by the Magistrate, who convicted and sentenced Martin to two months’ imprisonment. REMANDED. An adult, for whom Mr Thomas appeared, charged with an offence on a male, was remanded to appear in the Children's Court, bail being allowed at £IOO and one suretv of £IOO or two of £SO. THEFT CHARGES. George Wallace Giddon Richardson, aged 18, was charged with obtaining £lO from the N.Z. Coffee- and Spice Co., Ltd., by falsely representing that a cheque on the Union Bank of Australia. Ltd , at Hamilton, for £2O, was valid. Accused was charged also with the theft of a wireless set valued at £6O. the property of Harold Flyn, of Hamilton. Chief-Detective Carroll said that several other charges were pending, and asked for a remand.
Richardson was remanded until August 25.
