MINISTERIAL. The lion W. Nosworthy, PostmasterGeneral, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and proceeded to Wellington last night. Mr Frank Macfarlane. who recently retired from the position of engineer at the Calliope Dock (Auckland), after a period of twentv-six years service, left Auckland by the Marama on Friday en route for England. He expects to be abroad for a year. Mr IT. Holland, M.P., left Christchurch for Wellington last evening for the sitting of Parliament. Mr D. Jones, M.P.. left for Wellington last evening to attend the Government House function before the opening of Parliament. Mr 11. Lowry, stationmaster at Christchurch, who has been on a month's leave, resumed his duties yesterday. During his absence, he was relieved by Mr P. Bond. Bishop Liston and Professor Osborne arrived by the ferry steamer from Wellington this morning. The Hon H. L. Michel. M.L.C., arrived in Christchurch from the West Coast yesterday. Messrs J. B. Grant and S. A. Kelly (Auckland), W. M. Patterson and J. O. Sullivan (Wellington) are guests at the United Service Hotel. Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., who has been absent for some months owing to ill-health, is expected to resume his duties on the Napier Bench on July 1 next. M. Jacques-Edouard Chable, a Swiss journalist, who is carrying out an extensive tour of New Zealand, is in Wellington. M. Chable is the correspondent of several important newspapers, including the “ Journal dc Geneve,” “ Gazette de Lausanne,” “Der Bund” (Berne), “Figaro” (Paris), etc. Th^r r r si * nation bas been received by the Wellington Technical College Governors of Mr H. Linle}’’ Richardson, who has been a member of the art staff since November, 1907. Mr Richardson has resigned to take up the position of head of the art department at the Palmerston North Technical School. The board placed on j eeord its appreciation of his services.

Mr E. Leese (Auckland) is a recent arrival at Warner's Hotel. The Rev H. Nelson Wright, of Hokitika, arrived in Christchurch last evening, and is staying with Mrs R. 11. Browne. Armagh Street. Reference to the death of Mr W. H. Main was made at last evening’s meeting of subscribers to the Linwood Library, and a motion of sympathy with his relatives was passed. Mr E. P. V. Sealy, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd. at Timaru. has been transferred to the managership of the Wanganui branch. He has been succeeded by Mr P. Maclean, formerly of Blenheim, and Mr A. B. West has been transferred from Reef ton to Blenheim. Mr R. Bennell, who has been appointed to the managership of the Wellington branch Bristol Piano Oompanv in succession to the late Mr M. J. Brookes, was for nineteen years in charge of the Dunedin branch. Prior to his departure for Wellington several functions were held in his honour, ana appreciation was expressed of his valuable work in civic and philanthropic activities. At last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Football Association, a presentation was made to Mr R. English, in recognition of his services to the association as president during the last twenty-one years. The presentation was made by Mr C. H. Bascand, who emphasised the work done by Mr English for the game in Christchurch. The presentation carried with it lifemembership of the association and admission to all games played by the Canterbury Football Association. From Melbourne fhe death is announced of Mr B. C. Jones, late of Sydney, Timaru and Little River. Mr Jones was well known on Banks Peninsula, being the first secretary of the Banks Peninsula A. and P. Association. He was also secretary of the Banks Peninsula Collie Dog Club, and of the Little River Sports Club. Mr Jones married Miss Young, daughter of Mr Young, of the Public Works Department, who supervised the construction of the roads on the Kin loch Settlements. After leaving Little River be took over the management of the Hydro Grand Hotel in Timaru, and later went to California, and then to Sydney. A few years ago he took over the management of the Hotel Windsor, Melbourne.
