Mr T. Cloudesley, of Christchurch, returned to the Dominion yesterday by the Makura from Sydney after a trip abroad. Mr IC. de G. MacVitty, formerly American Consul at Auckland, has written to a friend in Auckland stating that he has been transferred to Leghorn, Italy. Before taking this post Mr MacVitty was at Stockholm. Mr J. J. Rodgers has been appointed by the Wellington Education' Board to the headmastership of the Martinborough District High School. Mr A. R Key has been appointed assistant master'at the Kelburn Normal School. Mr Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland Employers’ Association, leaves -by the Makura on a holiday visit to America. He will be accompanied by Mrs Spencer, and will be absent from New Zealand for six months. Bv the R.M.S. Makura, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Sydney came M. Benno Moiseiwitsch, the noted pianist,'who is to make a tour of the Dominion under the auspices of Messrs J. and N. Tait. and Mr Arthur Tait, who will personally conduct the tour. Messrs J- M. Houston (Auckland) and W. Forsyth. F. A. Drake, L. 11. Lahore. A. Bruce. H. A. Corrigan (Wellington). are recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. Mr F. S. Scott, of Messrs Scott Bros., Ltd., left last night to join the Makura for America and England. Prior to his departure he was met by the employees of the company and presented with a travelling rug.
Sir Henry Scott arrived in Wellington yesterday from Sydney. Messrs F. Waite. M.P., and A. S. Patterson arrived from the north this . morning. Mr H. C. Guinness (assistant railway traffic manager for Canterbury), has taken charge of the district pending the appointment of a successor to Mr 11. Chapman, who has retired. Mr E. S. Brittenden is taking Mr Guinness’s place in the meantime. Sir Walter Stringer is attending a sitting of the War Pensions Appeal Board at Auckland. Mr J. M’Combs, M.P. for Lyttelton, was a passenger for Wellington by last night’s ferry steamer. Bishop West-Watson returned from the West Coast last evening. The primary object of his visit was to induct the Rev H. Nelson Wright as the new vicar of Hokitika. A report issued last evening stated that the condition of the Chief Justice (Sir Charles Skerrett), who recentl}!- underwent a serious operation, was no worse. Sir Henry Scott, M.L.C., of Suva, arrived at Wellington yesterday. Mr L. Harris, of Messrs Bing, Harris and Co.. Dunedin, has arrived at Auckland after a visit to countries overseas. Colonel D. \ oung, Chief Veterinary Inspector of the City of London, is visiting New Zealand at the invitation of the Go.vernment. He arrived at Wellington yesterday. Messrs D. A. Ewen and J. A. Hclliwell (Wellington) are visitors to Warner’s Hotel.
