PLUNKET SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly committee meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the social room of City Council building. There were present — Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson (in the chair), and Mesdames H. A. Knight, F. Graham, J. S. Neville, J. Stevenson, E. Garland, H. T. J. Thacker, A. R. Bloxam, M. H. Godby, H. R. Smith, R. W. Anderson, J. Iv. Archer, G. Aitken, A. W. Beaven, E. Harris. E. Boulton,. E. Wanklyn, J. G. Hawkins, R_. M. Robertson, H. M’lntosh, A. M’Killop, Cecil Wood and Miss Cooke. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames B. H. Gilmour, R. M. Morten, J. Robertson, F. Wilding, J. Studholme and Miss Trotter. Leave of absence for four months was granted to Mrs H. R. Smith to enable her to visit Honolulu in the interests of the Plunket Society. Mrs A. Bloxam reported for the “ Silver Paper ” sub-committee that permission had been received from the City Council to place receiving-boxes in various parts of the city, such as the tram shelter, Cashel Street corner, and the corner of Armagh and Colombo Streets. In the boxes the public is requested to place the silver paper of chocolates and cigarettes. Mrs F. Graham reported having organised a bridge party, the proceeds from which would be reported at the next meeting. Notice was received that the biennial conference of the society would be held in Wellington on August 28 to 31 inclusive. Remits from the branch were discussed and passed, and delegates were elected to represent the Christchurch branch and sub-branches. It was decided to hold the annual meeting during the last week in June. It was decided to write and thank Mrs E. D. Millar for the offer to compile a cookery book for sale to augment the funds, and members were asked to send in as many signed re- j cipes as they could collect. For the office, Nurse Allan reported , 114 new baby cases—s 76 visits paid by J the Plunket nurses to homes. Visits to ) the various Plunket rooms were as fol- , low:
port was as follows: Eight babies admitted, 8 discharged. 14 in hospital, 6 mothers admitted, 4 discharged. 5 in residence at the mothers’ cottage. The death of a baby was reported. The case was a very serious one, transferred from a country hospital. The Mothers' Cottage has been xvell / filled during the month. One of the premature babies, weighing 31b on admission, gained l|lb xveight. in three x^eeks. Sister K. Merton was appointed to the staff, and came on duty on May 7. Nurses Al'Kenzie and Robins completed training, and Nurses MTntosh and Aloir commenced training during the month. Donations and subscriptions xvere gratefully receix-ed during the month from Mesdames Delahuntv, D. Doreen, H. S. Cook. W. M’Bride, W. J. Brownlees, C. V. Carson, F. C. Penfold, L. R Steel, A. M’Leod, the Rev N. L D. Webster, and the Sydenham Committee.
