PROCESSION COMMITTEE HAS FINAL MEETING BEFORE CELEBRATIONS.
That all Government departmental offices would l>e closed all day on Monday, May 28, for the Christchurch jubilee celebrations, was reported to a meeting yesterday afternoon of the Procession and Decorations CommitThat employees of retail business houses would be allowed to cease work on May 28 in time to allow them to take part in the procession, was & statement contained in a letter from the Canterbury Employers' Association. The Woolston Band wrote stating that it would be prepared to take part in the proceedings on the afternoon of May 28, provided a full band could be mustered. The Chief Post Office, the main Government buildings and the Provincial 1 Council buildings would be suitably decorated from May 26 till May 29 inclusive, stated the Hon F. J. Rolles* ton. M.P. It was decided that £lO be allowed | for the transport and commissariat expenses of a party of some twenty Maoris who will take part in the pro* cession, and that the aid of the police be invoked in keeping Victoria Square clear, so that mothers and children could have a comfortable view of the procession. There were present at the meeting, which was the final one before the celebrations .-—Messrs J. W. Beanland (chairman), E. H. Marriner, J. R. Hayward, j. N. Du Feu, Major D. El Bremner, Captain J. W. Crampton, and Mr W. E. Leadley (organising secretary).
