The usual monthly Ceilidh of the Scottish Society of New . Zealand was held in the rooms of the society, Manchester Street, on Thursday. There was a very' large audience, which included the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) and Mrs Archer, also the Rev Mr Miller, of Papanui, the Rev Mr Aitken, late of Kaiapoi, and the Rev Mr Rule. This being the first meeting after the annual meeting, the members of the council were introduced to those present. The programme arranged by Chief J. S. Chisholm and Chieftain R. M. Speirs was as follows: —Selection by society’s Pipe Band; violin solo. Miss N. Walton; pianoforte solo. Miss Alice Gibb; recitation, Mrs Hugh M’Leod; songs by Miss E. Vass, Mrs M. Pearce, Messrs Arthur MacDonald, G. B. Rawlinson, A. Warrillow, H. Dunlop, and Piper J. Wilson, also a duet by Messrs Archer and Pitman, and the Highland Fling, Sailor’s Hornpipe, Seaunn Truibhais, Gillie Callum, Irish Jig and Reels by members of the society’s dancing class. The evening closed with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.”
