AND NOW GOES BACK FOR ANOTHER TERM. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND. May 21. Charles King, thirty-nine, was sentenced to six months’ for theft of a gold watch and chain, valued at £2O, belonging to Charles Hugo Brandstidt. Both Brandstidt and King were arrested on Saturday evening for fighting. King was further charged with a breach of his prohibition order, assaulting Constable Slater and using obscene language. Mr J. J. Sullivan, for King, said that both men were drunk, and if the charge against King of robbing Brandstidt cf the watch and chain were reduced lo common theft he would shorten the procedure by pleading guilty. The police agreed, and no evidence was offered on the minor charger. Mr Sullivan said that King was only four days out of prison, after serving seven years. The chief-detective said that King was an incorrigible. He had been in gaol nearly all his life, and would have to go back to prison for eighteen months, as he -was out on license. He commenced his criminal career in London in 1904, and also had a record in New South Wales. His Auckland convictions were for theft, vagrancy, consorting, breaking, entering and theft and escaping from custody.
