TENNIS EVENING.

Through the generosity of Mr and Mrs N. H. Barlow in lending their home in Euston Street, an extremely pleasant evening was spent on Saturday py the members of the Sumner Tennis Club. Dancing took place in the drawing-room, beautifully decorated with masses of autumn foliage and tawny chrysanthemums, while in the supper room cream and gold chrysanthemums provided a pleasing decorative effect. During the evening the opportunity was taken to farewell Mr and Mrs D. C. Cowan, two popular members, who are leaving shortly for South Africa. The prizes won during the season were presented by the president (Mr N. H. Barlow), the winners being:—Men’s singles championship, H. Ogier; men’s handicap doubles, R. Neville and 11. A. Bishop; ladies’ handicap doubles, Mrs D. C. Cowan and Miss ,L. Partridge; combined doubles handicap, Miss Browne and G. Browne; ladies’ singles championship, Mrs D. C. Cowan; ladies’ handicap singles, Mrs D, C. Cowan; Yankee tournament: ladies, Mrs Cowan; men, R. H. Henley. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs N. FT. Barlow, Mr and Mrs R. K. Henley, Mr and Mrs D. C. Cowan, Mr and Mrs 11. A. Potvine, Mr and Mrs I. J. Wilson, Mrs Woodman (Wellington), Misses Melba Martin, Eileen Sherrard, Jessie Gerrard, Rheadie Austin, Messrs R. Neville, FI. A. Bishop, G. Browne, R. H. Reid, C. Sherrard, FI. J. Williams* H. Ogier and W. H. Jackson.
